Laura Shannonhouse received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Florida in 2003. She is currently enrolled in a combined Master of Arts/Educational Specialist degree program in Mental Health Counseling also here at the University of Florida. She is a member of Chi Sigma Iota (International Honor Society for students, professional counselors, and counselor educators), Counselors For Social Justice, The American Counseling Association, and The American Mental Health Counseling Association. Laura is part of a team of counselors from UF involved in a prolonged engagement disaster recovery counseling outreach. She, along with six of her cohorts, provided counseling to teachers at a charter school in New Orleans; the research is based in praxis. Faculty and students from the University of Florida, the University of New Orleans, and Antioch University New England are creating an international prototype model for community based-culture centered counseling in disaster recovery.
Laura is in her 8th year of involvement with the UF Band program. As an undergraduate, she participated in the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Concert Bands. Laura accompanied the band on a performance tour through Scotland and England in 2004 and just last year was heavily involved in the logistics of the WASBE tour. The Wind Symphony represented the United States in the World Association for Symphonic Band and Ensembles in Singapore. Laura served as the president of the Beta Xi Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma (Nationally Honorary Band Fraternity) in 2003. She then served as the 2004-2005 Southeast District President of Tau Beta Sigma in charge of 34 different chapters. Currently, she is the sponsor to the local chapter of TBS here at the University of Florida.
“I love band and am thrilled at the opportunity I have to continue to be involved in different venues and attend graduate school simultaneously! I am happy to help you in any way I can, so feel free to email me. Have a splendid day!"
